The Artist: Bill Philip

Bill Philip was born in 1946 and brought up in Scotland and also the beautiful Lake District. Surrounded by such natural beauty, Philip was influenced by the power of the landscape and the surrounding sea and lochs from an early age. The effects of these surroundings are still echoed in much of his work to this day.

Philip originally trained as a professional photographer, studying at the University of Westminster where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art Photography. Until recently Philip was Director of Arts at the City of Westminster College, whilst still working and exhibiting regularly. Like so many artists past and present Philip decided to give up his work there to focus on developing his work further with an emphasis on landscape and fine art photography.

Philip likes to use a combination of old and new by mixing traditional photographic skills with digital technology. He is a founder member of the Arundel Gallery Trail and has been recognised with a number of awards including the Kodak Portrait Award and also a print award from the British Institute of Incorporated Photographers. Philip also has his own dark room where he can be sure that his work will have a lasting and unique quality.

Philip's work has been exhibited widely and published both in this country and abroad, with purchases being made by private collectors, galleries, corporate clients and interior designers to name but a few. He is committed to producing the very finest photographs and is gaining international recognition for his originality.
