The Artist: Richard Murray

“You can celebrate anything in art,” according to the artist. Animals are what Murray seems to be celebrating these days. His studio is a painted jungle of zebras, tigers, baboons, elephants, antelope and llamas juxtaposed with tamer sorts: cows, horses, rabbits, roosters, dogs and cats. ”These animals are the closest I’ve come to being content with my own style,” says Murray. Over the past 20 years, he has experimented with portraits, abstracts, still-lifes and landscapes. Murray’s penchant for animals is obvious by their presence in his work and his life. Travels abroad have contributed some unusual subject matter to his painting collection; a lion from Africa, a few camels and gaunt cows from India. Now residing in Oregon, Murray owns dogs and more than two dozen exotic birds. He has painted hundreds of animals and has no intention of slowing down. His rabbits are neither cute nor cuddly. His rooster, cows and geese don’t resemble the country style found in so many kitchens. And, his dogs may or may not fetch on command. “I want to portray the basic essence of the animals––not the stereotypes men impose on them.” Condensed from an article by Peta Owens

"Trend-setting, Imaginative, Mod, Colourful." As a unique fine art print resource, Poems continues to embrace contemporary art and artists. Poems are passionate about art and work closely with the artists they publish always looking for something unique either in colour, subject matter or treatment. The concept of "Poems" originated from a philosophy that art is poetry for the eye and stirs feeling, just as words entice the ear. Every piece of art is produced by an artist with a measure of passion.
