The Artist: Michele Killman

Michele Killman was raised in San Diego, California. She enjoyed art as a child, and won a handful of art awards in grade school. She was greatly influenced by her grandmother, who started painting at the age of 70 and loves it so much she would often encourage the young Killman to paint with her. Killman was adept in science and mathematics, so she went on to earn a B.A. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. She then spent 15 years as a high-tech marketing executive. The most exciting part of her job was working with the creative team to design and create corporate logos, brochures, website and TV commercials. She has always loved the creative process, whether it involves creating marketing materials or fine art, and told herself that one day she would pursue her love of painting on a full-time basis. Killman loves to approach a blank canvas with just a glimmer of an idea, and then have something emerge that makes people smile and feel good. Her work is light-hearted and colorful, making people smile and reminding them about the things in life that are wonderful and happy. Killman's work was shown in a solo exhibition in Del Mar, California in April 2002; and she participated in Artwalk 2003 in Little Italy in downtown San Diego.
