The Artist: Si Huynh

Si Huynh was born in Saigon, Vietnam, where he got his first formal art training at the age of 6. He came to Canada in 1981 and began his freelance illustration career in 1990. His approach to illustration draws from the vintage advertising style of the 1920’s and 1930’s with a modern flare. Si tries to harmonize and blur the distinction between fine art and commercial art in his work. His influences include poster master AM Cassandre, JC Leyendecker, and the Russian Avant-Garde artists such as Georgii & Vladimir Stenberg. Si, with his wife and son, lives on Vancouver Island, where he can be closer to some of the finest fly-fishing spots and golf courses anywhere.
