The Artist: Howard Hersh

Howard Hersh creates works that have inherent qualities of mystery and timelessness, appearing as if they contain their own inner light and energy. He observes, “The internal workings of the artist, as of nature, fluctuate between chaos and order, strength and silence, and can only lead to reverence for all things created.” His purpose is to connect us with what is sacred, using nature as a stepping-stone to the opening of the spirit that is in all things. Originally from Los Angeles, Hersh currently lives and works in San Francisco. There he practices the art of painting and printmaking, and has mastered encaustic, the ancient process of hot wax painting. His work is exhibited extensively through-out the United States and Japan, as well as in the Santa Barbara Museum, California, and the Fine Arts Museum of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
