Ives McColl

Biography

Ives McColl’s life as a photographer began in early childhood in Johannesburg, South Africa where he recalls “always taking pictures of friends and the beautiful landscapes of his homeland.” But it was not until his early twenties that he chose to study and make photography his career.

Upon graduation McColl achieved a first class honor degree from South Africa University and more importantly, a mastery of individual style of artistic expression.

McColl captures the play of light and shadow in the still life of flowers and landscapes. He states that, “shapes, light and composition are the most important elements in my photographs.” His imagery encourages us to step back and appreciate the often overlooked beauty in everyday life. McColl’s contemporary colorful photos and soft black and white images are a mirror into his everyday life experiences.

“I am an artist in process, and this is my journey.” McColl's artwork appears in major corporate, public and private collections throughout the world.

He lives in Southern California with his wife and two daughters where he continues working in his studio.
