Thierry Poncelet was born in Brussels in 1946 and spent much of his childhood in a small town called Manche en Famenne. His grandmother was a well known portrait painter and she encouraged Poncelet to draw and paint from a young age.
Although Poncelet studied drawing at St Luc School, he is completely self taught as an oil painter. After his education he worked for a picture restorer at the studio of a well known painter, Max Massot. During his time there, Poncelet learnt the technique of painting restoration, although this was to be short lived, as his own love for painting outgrew his interest in restoration.
Poncelet developed his love for painting into using oils and specialised in whimsical dog portraits, with much of his inspiration coming from famous French painters such as Jerome Bosch. He is also heavily influenced by the humorous literature and art of Walt Disney.
Poncelet has become an extremely successful artist with his paintings sought after throughout the world, and many have been exhibited at various leading galleries.
It will come as no surprise that when he is away from his studio, Poncelet enjoys walking his dog in his spare time!
