Henderson Cisz was born in Brazil in 1960 and grew up in a small village in Parana State near Maringa. Although he had an obvious talent for painting from an early age, he never considered pursuing a career as an artist and entered the banking profession instead. By the mid 1980’s, Cisz was painting as a hobby in his spare time and realised that art meant more to him than banking and chose to move to London to study painting.
Since then Cisz has never looked back and now spends the majority of his time at his delightful mews studio located near the Thames in West London. He loves to paint the drama and diversity of urban life and has a particular fondness for New York, Paris, Venice and of course London. Although many of his most inspirational works feature scenes from these beautiful cities, Cisz is a seasoned traveller who loves the sea and has somewhat of a nomadic past. Needless to say his love of travel has left imprints on his lifestyle not to mention his artwork.
Cisz paints using acrylics, oil or watercolour on canvas and his trademark is the use of cool, soft tones that convey the atmosphere of his subject. Cisz says of his work, ‘"I love the effect that weather has on the urban landscape and must confess to a particular fondness for the rain! Not only does it cast interesting shadows and reflections on the slick sidewalks, but it also dictates the stance of the figures. Their slightly defensive postures and hunched shoulders lend a very specific, and to my mind curiously engaging, mood to the overall scene."
Cisz takes hundreds of photographs of various locations and his style is surprisingly uninhibited with his studio wall strewn with splashes from his animated brush. The result that emerges from his studio is artwork that is beautifully resonant of the city it represents. Cisz works are regularly displayed in London galleries and at international art fairs.
