Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1967, Lorraine Christie is a classically trained artist. Lorraine thinks of herself as a self taught artist as she says it has taken her years of living to develop her constantly evolving art.
The artist was initially noted for her still-life paintings. Her choice of medium was in oils, Christie’s success started in her native Ireland and the U.K., however laterally she has become known world-wide. Her works are included in many private and corporate collections in Europe, the U.S., Japan and South Africa..
When you view Lorraine Christie’s art, you can’t help being struck by this artist’s astounding range of talent. You may be drawn in to her landscapes, where there is warm glow of light on the fields, and a delicate but spontaneous use of brushwork. In her nudes, the use of light, shadow, texture and colour combine to produce warm and inviting paintings that are approachable, sophisticated and very beautiful.
Her still-life paintings are strikingly lit and randomly arranged as if caught off guard, handsome compositions of luscious fruits, flowers, vases, and table cloths, capturing a moment in time. And then she has a new series that is just plain fun: Dog lovers, chasing after their beloved best friends. People caught in the rain. Silhouettes dancing in a wet glow. These paintings evoke a sense of mischievous joy … or is it simply that we welcome this artist’s quick wit and irreverent sense of humor which is conveyed on canvas?
In the artist’s words: "I dearly wish to leave my mark on the world. I can only hope that the viewer can catch a glimpse of the world as I see it... rich with colour and quality."
