Biography

Cappelletti Studio is a collaboration between brother and sister artists Tom and Sandy Cappelletti. Tom is a graduate of UCLA’s School of Design, and Sandy has a Fine Arts degree from CSU, Sacramento. Together they both share similar artistic inspirations in their very eclectic collaborative work. Influences range broadly from classic renaissance drawings to Picasso, Matisse, old toys, horticulture, and contemporary pop culture, infusing within each a playfulness in line, color, and subject matter. Tom and Sandy create their artwork using a combination of paint, drawing, photography, and collage. Sandy has a longstanding love of drawing, specifically pen and ink, as well as pencil and paint. Combining this with Tom’s photography and design sensibilities, they digitally assembly, modify and layer – creating a fresh, new look using timeless subject matter. Sandy is also an avid gardener and landscape designer. She has designed a number of private gardens and commercial landscapes. In many ways, her artwork is an expression of her love of nature and has a unique, organic appeal. Her work has appeared in many local galleries and shows. In addition to four years active duty as a Coast Guard officer, Tom was an early employee of the legendary Joe Boxer clothing company. He has worked as an art director and visual stylist on numerous motion pictures, music videos, commercials, and photo shoots. He is a consultant to Apple Computer and conducts software workshops on Photoshop, Illustrator, and digital photography. Avid scavengers of paper ephemera, they gather their inspiration by scouring such disparate sources as flea markets, garage sales, and thrifts stores. Be careful if you are traveling with them, as more than likely, you will be sidetracked into an artistic hunting and gathering diversion.
