Doreen Fletcher

Biography

Doreen Fletcher studied fine art in London during the seventies, spending time in West London and the East End. Her early influences were the Dutch genre painters, such as Vermeer and de Hooch, representing scenes of orderly, peaceful domestic life in a satisfyingly precise manner. As an urban landscape artist she has been concerned with representing the immediate environment. She normally selects a specific theme, such as "building and shop front facades", "street furniture", "markets", "fun fairs" or "urban traffic", building up a photographic library plus sketchbook drawings of the chosen theme. Each painting is proceeded by a detailed drawing which more or less mirrors the finished oil painting.

Doreen Fletcher completed commissions for the Foreign Office, the Corporation of London, and Hambros Bank whilst exhibiting at solo and group shows. She has also portrayed areas of Southern France and Eastern Europe - reproducing a two-dimensional facsimile of the three-dimensional reality.
