Joseph Wong

Biography

Joseph C.T. Wong was born in China in 1948. He moved to Hong Kong in 1952 and accumulated his painting techniques on his own while working as a commercial artisan in his 20’s.

In 1977 and 1982, Joseph was sponsored by overseas art dealers to visit Canada and Europe, respectively. He was commissioned to paint Canadian landscapes, from the East Coast to the Rocky Mountains. In between visiting museums, galleries and artists in Europe, he also learned etching techniques in Munich and has since developed a reputation as a dedicated etcher.

Back in Hong Kong, he taught printmaking in the Extramural of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for five years. He also became a part time lecturer in the Fine Arts Department of the University of Hong Kong. In 1989, Joseph moved to British Columbia, Canada and taught painting part time at Kwantlen University College.

Joseph’s work is displayed in public and private collections throughout China, including the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Fung Ping Shan Museum, and the University of Hong Kong.

In 1994, Joseph was welcomed into the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 2001, he re-visited France and found himself provoked by new colors of the landscapes that he didn’t get an opportunity to visit in his earlier trips.
