Biography

To Joyce Yiu, art is about “passion”. This passion between the painter and his/her work forms a connection between the artist and the viewer. A successful painting to her must transcend pure technique. It must move the viewer.

Color and form fascinate Joyce. Her figures and landscapes are simplified into shapes, yet they speak the essence of ‘time’ and ‘place’.

Joyce has garnered many awards and has exhibited in several shows throughout North America. Her painting “City Night Fall” won the City of Toronto Cathi Forbes Award and was purchased into the city’s permanent collection. Other awards include two best of shows at the Markham Group of Artists juried exhibition. The same year, her painting “Turkish Night Out” was accepted and exhibited in California Sacramento Fine Arts Center. Joyce’s works are displayed in numerous private and corporate collections.
